In literature studies, it is highly recommended to use Simple Present form. Either the question was in past tense or future tense, simple present is the safest form of answering. Because mostly, in literature, there is no such thing as a fixed answer. In literature, a student is allowed to venture with their description. For example, let's say a Drama class. If a text from Oronoko's book was given to you for analysis, surely, there will be one correct answer. However, there will not be a duplicate of that answer. Your answer will be different from the other student. Your usage of words, your style of writing and way of describing will absolutely differ.
