1. copy image & desaturate

2. image>adjust>invert

3. set blending mode to color dodge

4. filter>other>minimum,2pixels

Yes, use the pen tool inside of photoshop or if you have Wacom tablet then tracing would also work just fine. Wacom is just soo much easir towork with.
