In my company we used to have several numbers of interviews and one of them is done by the direct manager, in the same position as you. This will help in better performance and communication with your stuff. If you can't do that, I suggest that you have to set a meeting with the HR manger to do either of
Putting your own requirements that should be found in an employee
Or to have an interview with the employee before hiring them
If you can’t do both then, you should talk with the employee once they are hired and tell them your needs and if you didn’t like him/her after the3 month trial period write that in the assessment and then let them go.
