This depends upon the stage at which the interview is being held & the number of candidates. If there are a large number of candidates, the Interviewer may just be asking this question as a procedure & really does not want to answer any question. Hence a polite "I have no questions to ask" will do.
However if you have been shortlisted then you need to ask a few questions regarding your role, future prospects, how you should prepare before joining & at middle or senior level even ask about your pay & allownces.
The interviewer needs to hear more from you and, also to make sure that you understand everything like the offer & procedures

I believe most of times the candidate's questions are about :
- The expected duration for receiving a feedback regarding his application status.
- The structure of the department and his / her potential position's location over that structure.
- Development opportunities.
- Education aids / finance options.

In my view, its better to ask about the operations/profile of the company so that you can get the idea about the working.

I think that best expected answers should include questions about the duties and responsibilities of the vacant position, and about the company policies and regulations.
One question I do not like to ask (as an interviewee) not to be asked (as an Interviewer), but I think it became important in some GCC countries: "Do you have active policies regarding performance appraisal, total rewards, succession plans and Sponsorship transfer ?"
Do ask for the following:
1 - How much time it will take to complete the recruitment.
2 - What qualities es you are in searching for this specific position.
3 - How many interviews session usually you have.
