What reply does the interviewer expect when s/he asks "do you have any questions for us"?

This depends upon the stage at which the interview is being held & the number of candidates. If there are a large number of candidates, the Interviewer may just be asking this question as a procedure & really does not want to answer any question. Hence a polite "I have no questions to ask" will do.

However if you have been shortlisted then you need to ask a few questions regarding your role, future prospects, how you should prepare before joining & at middle or senior level even ask about your pay & allownces.

The interviewer needs to hear more from you and, also to make sure that you understand everything like the offer & procedures

I believe most of times the candidate's questions are about :

- The expected duration for receiving a feedback regarding his application status.

- The structure of the department and his / her potential position's location over that structure.

- Development opportunities.

- Education aids / finance options.

In my view, its better to ask about the operations/profile of the company so that you can get the idea about the working.

I assume the interviewer will have no prototype answer for such question, however he/she might be reading between lines for the essential personal/career skills that he/she requires in candidate suppose to fill that blank, such as ( knowledge, bravery, intelligence, austral & fluency..etc). And hence its good opportunity for the candidate to knowingly exploit it on the way  reveals and persuade the interviewer that he/she is more than adequate for this job. Although it might be few words for candidate to express but it really will reflect how organized, knowledgeable, skillful, intelligence, eloquent the candidate is, which it could differentiate him/her for other applicants  and might encourage interviewer to shortlist him/her.

I advise my self and candidates responding to such question to:

1. precisely checking employer web side & profile.

2. In simplified and straightforwardly manner ask the question (preferably not more than tow). (word should be simple, avoid using phrasal verbs or idiomatic languages since the interviewing board might contain non natives English speakers.)

3. the question had better be not profound one/s. coincided with the level of interview (UDAI MEHTA).

4. preferably; question/s are revolving around: internal and external roles nominated candidate could play for the employer (higher level). ways to get negative or positive result (low level).

I think that best expected answers should include questions about the duties and responsibilities of the vacant position, and about the company policies and regulations.

One question I do not like to ask (as an interviewee) not to be asked (as an Interviewer), but I think it became important in some GCC countries: "Do you have active policies regarding performance appraisal, total rewards, succession plans and Sponsorship transfer ?"

1 - How much time it will take to complete the recruitment.

2 - What qualities es you are in searching for this specific position.

3 - How many interviews session usually you have.
