Generally it takes9 months to born a baby.A pregnant mother can serve office in first3 months and the last6 months leave as maternity is necessary for her.So, it would be wise to grants a minimum6 months maternity leave for a pregnant mother .It could allowed2/3  times for  a life time.

Ideally, maternity leave should be granted  for12 weeks  with6 weeks before child birth and6 weeks thereafter.  This is only an approximation and the rules change from country to country.  As to how many times it should be granted depends on the labour laws of the country.  However, organizations can plan a system of their own in which benefits may exceed the stipulations of the government.  It is a better option to allow flexibility to the employee as to when the leave should start and when it should end since it would contribute to satisfaction.
