As consumers want quality commodities at lower prices ,producers and or processers on the other hand also want higher prices for their products. The achievement of the aim of both parties depend on their bargaining power. So, a comsumer must exibit a higher bargaining power in relation to that of the producer in order to grab the agri-food at a cheaper price. This can be done by forming a consumer based co-operative.By so doing, consumers can collectively obtain commodities of high quality at lower or cheaper prices.
Quality foods never falls under cheaper prices unless someine grows at individual level or in group., So the only option is to promote growing agri produce especially fruits n vegetables @ kitchen garden / Terrece garden (Individuals) OR in a Society land / Township garden.
In the case of Rural ~ again the group can lease out land to grow agri produce & buy back at very cheap n quality foods.
Finally, if someone from somewhere can start "community kicthen", even the prepared / cooked food will also be very cheap. This not only save precious time & energy to prepare food but can set an example of communal harmony.
The option for consumers to buy agri-foods at cheaper prices is to organize themselves through consumer cooperatives. Consumer cooperatives are a business entity owned and controlled by members. The main purpose of consumer cooperative is aimed at enhancing bargaining power of consumers for both industrial products and agricultural commodities. Consumer cooperatives ensure not only the bargaining power but also attaining the objectives of acquiring high quality agri-foods at fair prices.
The role of consumer cooperatives is not limited to provide better services for their consumer members only. They are mutaully benefitial for agricultural producers, specially small holder farmers. Therefore, organizing them into consumers' cooperative has an indespensible contribution to promote quality and standardizations, reduce costs of transaction and ensure smooth flow of commodity in the market. Besides, they have vital role on improving productivity and production of essential agricultural commodities.
