From the behavior of the employee employer/manager gets idea that the employee is going to leave soon. For example coming late and leave early office, not actively participate as a team player, not willing to deliver his/her best etc.

The more you are social with your employees, the mote you are open/understand to each other.

Secondly, keep regular monitoring on employees' KPIs which shows their interest with the company.

The employees who are curious & passionate about their work, they never let their manager notice a slightest bit of sign of their plan to move.

Its all about the Employee Engagement. No matter whatever could be the reason to leave, personal, better career prospects, an employee who is committed and passionate of his work will not leave an impression in his behavior as he is leaving the company.

Having said that, the other side most of the employees who are dis engaged, as rightly said, they keep making excuses to work, unscheduled absenteeism, lack of schedule adherence and lack of morale & keep complaining other employees & lack of respect to the management.

The above practices are mainly due to lack of competitive spirit, lack of competencies & self motivation.

One of the rare situation that could also be due to poor management.

Apart from the "disengagement" already mentioned, the best clue is suspicious or unusual behavior.   Wearing different clothes, long lunch breaks, odd requests for short amounts of time off, surreptitious phone calls, etc..

Of course this only applies in certain work cultures.  In others, the main clue is when the employee comes to the manager and says, "I'm thinking of changing jobs."

There's no specific indicator. It's a general sense that you receive. And this sense is gained only by experience.

On the other hand an establishment and a standarization of a communication path might also help you to prevent such a situtations.

You should not waste much time and effort in doing that Employees leave for so many reasons: Better opportunities / packages Lack of motivation Toxic work place Lack of growth opportunities So you'd better care for your employees, motivate, guide and grow them So you can get the best results from them during the period they will work with you

Others it's very difficult to tell when leaving because some will do thier job as usual and improve not create any doubts. And when u list expect is when u wl receive the resignation letter or the he/she leaves without notice.
