What is the internet of things?

It's a description of how the world will evolve into a 'connected world', where virtually everything can be connected together. I.e. The vision is for the entire world to be networked together.

In our lives it is envisaged that we will have the functionality to have better control of our lives, e.g. The heating/air conditioning will automatically switch on when you are within minutes of home, so that you consume less resources and your home is comfortable when you arrive, or the fridge in you kitchen will realise by the weight of the milk carton and your habits that it will run out by tonight, so it automatically orders a carton which is delivered precisely when you arrive home from work. This is only a snapshot of the possibilities to come.

Internet of things is about automating your house hold.

Internet of things is new technology to connecting mostly everything to internet, as example in Home Automation system you can switch on/off your AC, often... through web application over internet 

Internet of Things is connecting any device (which aids us in our daily life) to the internet, converting those devices into smart objects, and enabling them to share information, which makes complex processes simpler, faster and reliable.
