A negative employee can infect a work group or team with negativity faster than you can imagine.
This is not the most pleasant component of a manager’s job, but if you manage people, you will eventually encounter a situation in which you need to manage a negative person – for the sake of your other employees and the team.
What are the various ways to deal a negative employee?
While being a team manager one would need to keep in mind few key points :
1. the current state of employee :- personal & professional
2. Behavioral tendencies :- anxiety, anger, agitation or mute.
3. Tenure in the company.
Steps as a manager could be taken as :
1. regular1-1's with them to ensure you are listening.
2. Never create comparison between them or rest of the team.
3. timely refresher trainings.
4. encourage participation in extra activities.
5. Avoid personal comments
It majorly takes one good ear & actions to deal with employees with these tendencies.. is what we call Managing Individual differences rather than terming them as " Negative Employee"

I think that the successful manager who could manage his team and repair the defects within their capacity. His role is to guide and accommodate the management changes in close overview of the staff to be more and more believable for achieving targets.
The easy failure is to terminate the negative agents till lose the team power or experienced staff.
