There can be multiple reasons, but the most common of all is when marketers take company/brand social profile as a broadcast medium. Too much push of content in less time can lead to spamming on user fb wall. The other reason can be push of content not related to company/brand/cause. Eg. a car tyre brand pushing out content talking about dog food ... When you create a social profile, you build up a virtual community of like minded people. If the page talks differently then there will be people leaving the community ( in this case unfollowing a page).
Also, one important trade of a good social media page is user engagement, acknowledge user on his/her comments/messages. Let them know there is a human behind a brand and your page is not just a broadcast medium.
