Is it money, personal ambition, team, leadership, all of the above? When faced with a demotivated workforce, what common thing among people consistently brings out the best in us all?
Folks
Motivation is two way traffic.
First is our own self-Motivation. Which starts with our professional roadmap & goals; also what milestones we want to achieve from this Job or our future.
Second motivations comes from organization & its leadership. In my experience if employer can motivate employees by following points:
Trustworthy Leadership: Leadership that have your back and that are looking out for your best interests – will win the trust of their employees who in turn will be more motivated to achieve. Trust is a powerful motivational tool and those leaders that are more transparent with their employees will find surprising results and new types of opportunities to develop talent.
Appreciation: In today’s world where everyone wants to be noticed and recognized for their work – employees are motivated to achieve to be appreciated.
Career Advancement: Perhaps the most important factor on this list is the ability to advance. Employees are extremely motivated to achieve if this means that advancement awaits them.
No Regrets: People don’t want to live with any regrets in their career/life and thus are motivated to not disappoint themselves. Many people are confused in today’s workplace about their future. Motivate them by giving them the perspectives they need to achieve.
Stable Future: People are motivated to have safety and security. Everyone wants a stable future, but you never know when time will pass you by. That’s why we are all in a race against time and thus motivated to achieve faster than ever before.
Happiness: In the end, happiness is one of the greatest motivations to achieve. Happiness fuels ones self-esteem and gives people hope for a better tomorrow. We are all victims of taking our work too seriously. Step back and enjoy the journey. Your motivation to achieve is ultimately based on earning a living that brings you tremendous joy and satisfaction.
Best Regards
I believe it is all of the factors you listed, to include opportunity. When motivation is low, a reward system would help to bring up self-confidence.
Real factors that motivate oneself at workplace are individualistic.I get motivated to preserve my self esteem based on self review for the self determined high professional targets and I am used to such introspection due to my high quality professional training and result oriented professional approach right from start of professional carreer.
It is neither money nor any pressure from boss which works for me but DOING THE RIGHT THING AT RIGHT TIME and managing EFFECTIVELY rather than procedurally and efficiently ..I bend rules if required and challenge my ownself if objective target seems to be slipping and if work is there , I am always there to attend to it to the best of my ability because I work for myself and my self esteem and try to own my work, business and targets/ objectives leading from front even if it is not my company..
Thank you Mohammed , Yes the personal ambition is a must for success but there's external factors that lead you to go up and down e,g business enviuroment ,your boss not updating with the newest process in business world and not allwoing you to use the new methode ......etc .
the zeal to work and prove urself that u r capable of doing anything and can handle any situation in the demotivated work force and the rest of the things like ur profession, environment and other things motivate you much at the work place....for all this u should have SELF-CONFIDENCE
I think this is a great question while somehow the thing here is that we are all individuals within individual circumstances so motivation for each of us can be different as well. Being able to influence progress in business is a major motivator for me. In general we are motivated by the things and behaviors that we value and by the way we are valued. Sometimes saying thank you and recognizing an effort can be a motivator, sometimes it is a bonus and sometimes the environment that was created. There are literally hundreds of ways to motivate at the work place, depending on the current environment. If I were in a situation that you describe (demotivated team), I would want to understand what the barrier’s are that lead to demotivation and remove them first.
Appreciation for work being well done. rewards, permotions etc
Money, personal ambition, team, leadership, bonding, work environment, support from the management are the sign of health Organisation. If all the things are maintained by the company then there are very less chances for a employee to search for a job outside.
