AC has two main Types one is active power and other is reactive power.active power is the one which is dissipated in the devices and is responsible for work done and power consumption. and reactive power is neither responsible for work done neither power loss but it is responsible for drawing of extra current from the source which is not good for the Power distribution companies and neither for your wiring because it then requires higher ampacity.
