In model space you can draw autocad entities in0:0 scale...nd when you need to plot or want to set the drawing in a defined paper..u can set it in layout accordingly by paper setting.the only thing which bother is Text size..as you have to set text size as per required scale ..hope the info is help full..thanks

Just simply! before starting any drawing in AutoCAD...what you've to do just type: UNITS click ENTER or SPACE BAR and depends on you what precission u'll use it & unit (ex: metric system or english system) in Metric System: was in "FEET or INCHES & " for English System: is in "METER or MILIMETER"  then after that, u'll go back to the drawing screen then Click the SCALE toolbar for you to choose & select of what you want "SCALE" to be use it. then you can starting your first AutoCAD Drafting.

From my experience, i guess what raju suggested is the way to go. Prepare drawings in model space in1:1 scale and create viewport in paper space as per scale requirement. But the texts height will depend upon the scale you print. Hence the scale of the drawing has to be decided before you place texts.

Go to your model space draw anything to a1:1 scale, your arrangement  will show you the space you can occupy in1:1 this then you devide by the paper size you need to use that willgve you a scale and you chose the next to standard scales recomended, this is more of a trial and error until you reach the required results. Dont forget that the bigger the scale the less vissible the actual drawing , after that go to your layout (paper space) . Go to file , page set up manager,  select paper. I hope this i sof help

Basically  THE MORE THE FACTOR(1:1000) THE OBJECTS WILL APPEAR SMALLER

THE LESS THE FACTOR THE(1:10)  OBJECTS WILL APPEAR BIGGER ON PAPER

we want to see everything bigger , but it is impossible, so we arrive at reasonable scale by experience/guide from cad standards etc etc. to a layout and show only wich is repetitive or complex in bigger scale as DETAIL.

People blindly copy or save as from earlier projects and move on in companies

As every one said above you have to draw in1:1 scale in model space, but befroe annotating it

or dimension it,  you have draw a border line of  sheet size excluding title block which will be on right side usualy,

For example you are drawing a1 size . the size is841x594, say leaving title block  margin etc etc600,500 effective space available. you have draw this on model space, scale it xtimes for example50 times  your border will be600x50mm and500x50mm

go to paper space using mview, create layout size and enter zoom; factor;1/50x

General arrangement  plan elevation sections etc1:100 or1:50 depends on size of building or detail required

Details of concrete/steel  structures will be in1:25,1:10 1:5 etc

No,  dont think so

becuz autocad is free paperspace you can design1:1 Scale after that you can scale it to desired but before drawing the model you can preset its scale you need a macro to develop (based on lisp or VBA)

hope this following link may help you

I disagree with you Raju.  That method is the non professional method. Layout space has many of its advantages, but for beginners working completely on model space.

No need to scale any thing. Make all heights "0" for lines, text, arrow and others. When you plot it in layout to any scale, it will be automatically adjusted.

Hello,

I prepare my drawings full size in Model Space with UNITS set to UNITLESS. Then I set my Layouts in Paper Space to the appropriate scale to suit the size of sheet that I intend to print on. I do all dimensions and texts in Paper Space - the texts will be the same height, irrespective of the scale of the viewport.

Hope this helps.

i would i like to suggest you that,

first of all go for page sate up, than give the page size..

than go for unit selection... like Meter,Cm,feet etc

than after check ANNOTATION SCALE below the command bar.

you can select Desire scale ratio from there.
