There are some simple rules which in my opinion and experience you should stick to:1. Be a straight shooter. Don't try and spin a complicated web around the potential client. Understand what their needs are and tell them how you can address them.2. Treat them as an individual, talk to them as you would with a colleague. Having great rapport is very important but give them the feeling that you know them and understand what obstacles they are currently having and how you are working to for them to overcome these.3. Whatever you do don't lie! I can't stress this enough. If you can't give them what they're looking for, don't attempt to sell them something they don't need. It will eventually land back in your lap.

Well, a person has to have confidence in his knowledge and skills. To do so, they have to practice and acquire new pieces of knowledge. For a salesperson, they have to know:

 

- communication skills,

- and everything from A to Z about the product or service they are promoting.

 

Remember that there are times when a salesperson can't make a sale and that's not because of the salesperson, maybe the recipient can't afford the product or service or is a very tough customer, among other possibilities.
