Emotional Intelligence (EQ) has been a hot topic for many years now. It concerns our ability to identify, comprehend, and effectively manage our emotions in a way that our communication skills are sharpened and our empathy for others is enhanced. Overcoming challenges in a positive manner and gaining the ability to diffuse conflit more adeptly are also attributed to greater EQ.
of course it is . whatever the business activities are we are surrounded by people , how do we manage our relationship with employees to create a comfort and encouraging atmosphere to stay for longer time and reducing the problem of ( turn offer ) _ specially in hospitality and tourism industry as first . then how to keep a well relationship with customers and gain their loyalty
Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to identify, use, understand, and manage emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, and overcome challenges. Emotional intelligence impacts many different aspects of your daily life, such as the way you behave and the way you interact with others.
With emotional intelligence you are able to recognize your own emotional state and emotional state of others and engage with the people in better way, healthy relationship, achieve great success at work, by knowing your emotion, strengthens, weakness will have self-confidences, by knowing your (EQ) You know how to develop and maintain good relationships, communicate clearly, inspire and influence others, work well in a team, and manage conflict.
I think EQ is the caliber that should be considered in business affairs rather than considering the IQ. The higher your EQ scores the better your ability to handle pressure and succeed in team and task management.
EQ it is a good part of us, as well as we are defined by IQ . When we speak about business affairs, my understanding of the concept is that any succesfull organizations has a well estabished chain of management that uses a set of instruments based on rules, regulations, procedures and protocols in order to achieve organisation s goals, on short, mid and long terms. Therefore at the first look, we may have a conflict between creativity, flexibility, diffrent approaches (think out the box) and rules, regulations, procedures and protocols. I think one witout the other equals what misses to a mentor in order to become a leader. In our case a good manager that will implement instruments based on creativity and not only, will be able to secure a lower margin of success that his organization could not secure it in any other way. On the other hand, any abuse of the EQ will create a state next to chaos organizational that will determine financial losses.
Emotional intelligence is an added value to IQ.Its a theory developed in's for managerial and staff succession at workplace. Its an important factor due to globalized world to know the cultural perspectives of employees and manage them differently
Why is emotional intelligence such a vital trait for PR professionals? For starters, a healthy dose of EQ better equips practitioners for our unique roles as counselors.
“Emotional intelligence is essentially gravitas — steadiness of emotions,” says George Jamison, a principal and head of the corporate communications and investor relations practice at executive search firm SpencerStuart. “Communications professionals are coming into jobs where there is a lot of scrutiny, a lot of pressure. The expectations have increased, and EQ is part of that. [They] are expected to deal with adverse situations and keep their cool.”
Another reason why EQ is so critical for practitioners is because we interface so frequently — and so intensively — with people. And when it comes to people, all communications exchanges are, to some extent, emotional ones.
“There are many [PR professionals] who are highly skilled at what they do, but not many have high emotional quotients,” says Dennis Spring, president of New York-based PR recruiting firm Spring Associates, Inc. “Whatever your business is, you’re surrounded by people, and somehow we’ve gotten away from that. We have to remember that PR is not about social media, it’s about people, and how we all fit, integrate, and react.”
EQ is such a critical component of our profession because we are so frequently the “brand voice” for our organizations.
“PR people don’t get an emotional intelligence pass. It’s tough to get away with being emotionally unaware when you are representing your client’s brand,” says Amanda Kowal Kenyon, senior vice president and director of organizational development at Ketchum Public Relations in New York. “Communicating is inherently a relational activity — we need to have that awareness even more than other professionals.”
Hi Collen,
Good evening. Firstly, Sally thank you for giving me opportunity to answer this question. Everyone have already presented their point of view and what is EQ, I would not go to its definition. In my opinion, in business world everyone look for potential candidate who can tackle business issue efficiently. But, apart from that the person who can conquer his/her emotions, can make right decision in weird situations. Since, human is socio animal, it is not as easy as we say. In today’s world, due to lack of time and mountain of information, data available on your fingers tips it create undue pressure and if the person can control emotional thought then there is more probability of getting right decision for business problem. So, I think it is not just important, but it is inevitable.
Emotional intelligence is the single best predictor of performance in the workplace and the strongest driver of leadership and personal excellence. And when we increase our effective use of emotional intelligence, we will increase our ability to develop more solid, trusting relationships in our business arena.
Indeed, our understanding of emotional intelligence will vastly improve our internal relations and deepen our sense of personal fulfillment and professional accomplishment. And stronger internal relations mean a stronger bottom line.
Emotional Intelligence plays a vital role specially in People Management Role and also in an Individual Contributor Role.
People Management Role -
* Helps to understand and connect to people's emotion and take decisions.
* Such decisions will not come across pushed or pressurized in these cases.
Individual Contributor Role -
* Helps to understand Policies and Procedures and it's importance
* Feels Self driven and motivated
The combination of the above, which means for ex. The Manager and the Individual Contributor understand their Roles and Responsibilities and work as a team to reach the desired goal faster.
Which in turn results in Least Attrition, Employee Satisfaction, Increased Company Profits etc.
