There are many open source reporting tools readily available for companies to deploy to their business users today.
Most of them, however, do not provide hard core corporate features such as multiple user support, integration with existing security mechanisms, ad hoc visual reporting tools, scheduling facilities, and the like.
but there are some tools which I used and like most are mentioned below.
I would personally recommend using JasperReports.
It is the world's most popular open source reporting engine.
It is entirely written in Java and it is able to use data coming from any kind of data source and produce pixel-perfect documents that can be viewed, printed or exported in a variety of document formats including HTML, PDF, Excel, OpenOffice and Word.
JasperReports provides a tool called iReport to develop SQL-based reports and the JasperServer to make these reports available via webserver.
Scheduling report creation is possible as well.
The JaserperServer community edition is released under AGPL License.
The iReport community edition is released under GPL License.
So both open source.

Some other famous open source reporting tools are Birt, Datavision and Jacob.
There's one more very beautiful tool is PIWIK (http://piwik.org), but this software is specifically good for Web Analytics and Analytical researches.
