Good writing skills is really a life skill wouldn't you think? Good writing skills are the foundation of good communications skills which forms the basis of our day to day professional working life (notwithstanding our personal life). Good writing skills could land you your dream job, drive sales, clinch a deal, get your article or story published or simply, and possibly more importantly, allow you to connect with someone, be it private or personal.
Almost every single work position requires good communication and is not exclusive to writers and/or journalists: HR, PR, Directors, Management, Marketing specialists, Copy Writers, Lawyers, Secretaries, Assistants, Receptionists ... the list could go on and on.
Jobs that require good writing skills fall into two broad categories: jobs where good writing is essential to fulfill other responsibilities, such as customer service positions, and jobs where good writing is the primary responsibility, such as journalism or technical writing.

Just as good verbal skills are a necessity for most career opportunities, writing skills are another form of communication and need to be just as good as verbal skills.
Good writing skills are best developed personally so that they can be transferred easily into any area of work.
Look at developing writing skills as a lifelong skill.
All careers require good writing skills, but there are some careers require exceptional writing skills otherwise you will not advance to next step. Obviously you can't be a good journalist or content writer without exceptional writing skills.
