How important is travel and tourism to the gross domestic product of countries like Jordan?

Very important because there are countries that their main source of foreign exchange earnings they get from tourism. the cases of countries like Spain and the Caribbean Islands is known that their main source of income is based on tourism

Tourism generates and supports a vast network of jobs and industries. On average, tourism generates almost 10% of the world’s gross domestic product, or GDP. This contribution sustains significant employment. One in 11 jobs worldwide can be linked directly or indirectly to tourism.

Tourism can fulfil the three goals of developing countries. It can generate income; it can increase foreign-exchange earnings; and it can create employment

Tourism can protect and restore sites of historic and/or cultural significance(petra). Tourism can save endangered species and habitats. Tourism can also protect natural environments from more extractive industries. Tourism exposes people to different places, cultures and issues. Tourism fosters cross-cultural understanding, tolerance and peace. Tourism jobs can promote equity and equality. Providing for tourists improves facilities that also benefit host communities.

Quite Important as it adds to the growth of the economy.

Its really important for any economy to generate their GDP's and to increase their revenues....

it is very importent to the travelling of different countries for the exchanging of your lot of things like products , thoughts etc You find & exploring your business activities and increase your exports & imports also. if you increase the exports the foreign exchage will come in your country and then the economy will be strong , some time lot of products in your country but not in other country so when the products are exchage country to country the lot of needs of the people fullfill.

I would say very important as it has a trickledown effect into many sectors and industries within the country (e.g., food industry, transportation, accommodation to name a few). Tourism revenue can often offset and/or compensate a country's gdp when other sectors of the economy are weak.
