When starting a new project it is necessary to engage with the Project team and set the parameters and objectives of what needs to be delivered.  Each project is different and the success behind a project depends on the buy in from the overall core team and the key stakeholders involved.  This means that a project plan is imperative followed by a scope of work alongside the budget to ensure that neither scope creep nor cost increases happen.  At this point the approach and the assumptions and risks are identified.  The project plan would involve a traffic light system to ensure contained risks and the key communication plan is set.  The primary lesson is that if your plan, costs, scope and communications deliver so will the project.

On projects it is necessary to have a leader as a manager.  I prefer leaders as they inspire the team to deliver.
