Aren’t PMP certification exams just an excuse that consultants use so that they can charge their clients more money?

Some consultants charge more money because they are certified, but that’s not the only reason to get certified.

Definitely it must not be the reason behind pursuing certifications, however as they spend money and put much effort and time to get such certificates they should be be paid well

Certificate has nothing to do with the business unless the consultant was very professional to add value for the client. Most of certified courses now just for money purpose only.

PMP certification requires rigorous training and commitment. There is no doubt that the personnel with PMP certification has thorough knowledge on the project management processes.

However, while selecting the consultants, the previous experience on similar projects shall be also considered as a major criteria

I think that PMP certificate has a great role for work opportunities and the personnel who passed PMP will get more wages because they will hire in the leadership positions , so it's very intersting.

Benefits of performing PMP training would be multiple. Mainly for promotions and job changes. And in some cases the brand building of personnel. However, it is completely upon your own strengths how to use this PMP as an equipment to get your goal achieved.

PMP is a rigorous and a costly qualification.  Individuals who have formally completed this qualification means that they have undergone the training, they have amassed considerable amount of experience on various aspects of PM, and has passed the examination.  The certification is an attestation that the individual has demonstrated expertise on the subject matter, has working knowledge of PMP standards as stipulated in the PMI Book of Knowledge and can accept the accountability and responsibility required of the job with confidence.

A PMP qualification at least offers some confidence that your PM is experienced and knowledgeable enough to have achieved it. From there on in, it is your responsibility to know your PMs experience and talents. A PMP qualification needs to be maintained, along with a commitment to professional development as project management techniques change and improve. A good project manager can save a client A LOT of money. Sometimes much, much more than you are paying them.

If you are a bad, or inexperienced PM, and you may have recently gained your qualification, and are overcharging your client, your client is to blame for not recognising this. I would never give my money to someone I didn't know and trust.
