Both of them means conveying or delivering the same meaning in other language (General Definition) but translation is written and interpretation is verbal or oral.

Translation mainly occurs between two different languages to break language barriers; interpretation can take place within one langue.

Translation means an almost depersonalized transliteration of meanings from one language to another - except when translating the poetry,  that is pretty strict operation where you are not allowed to input the meanings that were not there in original text.

On the other side, intepretation is a creative process where you basically make a so called "meta-text" - your personal meta-comment about the text which is object of interpretation.
