In my point of view please use Win-win model for mutual benefits that will helps you a lot rather that ruling over them

Employees are of two types, those who likes and willing to work and those who are lazy and needs to be told what to do and being followed up.
Referring to your question bossism will work with those who need to be told what to do, while the others needs recommendations and motivation to keep up the good work. So you have to determine the type of employee you are dealing with and choose the best way to bring the best out of him.

Let me inform you that bossism will not help. This rule apply not only to supply chain rather it apply to any department. We need to control the employees differently so as they carry out the allocated work and at the same time they feel involved.
However the lower level employees are key factors in all the department. We need to keep them deciplined by caring them. This is a simple rule of the world "YOU CARE ME THEN I WILL CARE YOU"

Teamwork is the key - any Boss success is the colective work effort of his departemant - So the Boss needs Lower level employees efforts in a correct manner - and vice versa - Low level employee needs perfect Guidance on correct timely bases to acheive his goals. its a give and take sitution from both sides.

I believe that Democracy has a place in society but in the supply chain the customer is always right. The Boss must be responsible to pay the wages of his/her employees, responsible for profit, and responsible for ending the day knowing all the days work will result in a satisfied customer. The Boss must me the one who says "No" to a bad idea or poor business practice.
Bossism is an important aspect in the Supply Chain. You always need one person who is in charge and directing the employees other wise you have chaos. One leader and everyone doing their part in supporting the leaders mission.
In short Bossism improves productivity only if the boss understand his employees make him successful. It is my final responsibility to train my employees to one day be the boss.

No Bossism does not help, especially at the operations level. According to Womack, managers should practice what is called the 'Gemba walk', They should be hands-on. This way they get to identify the roots of a problem, communication becomes easier and many problems can be eliminated. The bureaucratic way (hierarchical) way of dealing with issues should be avoided. BPR should be deployed and cross functionsl approach should take over the Silo approach.
