Im not a leader but i tried to be one once and i believe that to lead is less about a title and a position. to lead is to model mastery, to be a role model, so instead of looking at this person as your dead weight, make him your personal challenge.

  • approach him with empathy
  • Build a rapport with your team member
  • offer help
  • if all else fails, take action and report any insubordination.

Thanks for the invitation !

Be patient with him/her.

Arrange a meeting with that member.

Ask in a professional but friendly way.

Try to discover the reason and help out if possible.

And if by all positive means, problem is not solved then deal it with strict action, to give lesson.

Meet the employee and explain the problem.

Listen to the employee and know the problem.

Explain and clarify the functions of the job.

Help and support staff.

Training and qualification.

In the event of failure of all attempts, it is dispensed with.

Listening skills, Patience and problem solving skills are important in this scenario. Understand his problem, resolve that if he is habitual of that no other remedy except sacking him or her.

To my understanding, it is critical for you to maintain patience and take a more broader approach. The message you want to convey to the team member is that you know what he/she is upto, however, you are reacting in a highly professional and calm manner. Your body language conveys more than your words. Yes, some team members are quite difficult to handle, but, if in your case this was a one-off incident then you ought to convey the message and move on. Also, be careful not to insult or let the team member down in front of others. However, if his action demand a public apology, then agree with him separately and get an apology in front of those who were a witness. The key is, you are still not loosing your patience, maturity, understanding approach and at the same time you are tough, clear and will not give in to non-professionalism.

Being friendly and keep often communications with an attitude and unprofessional members and get close to them. know who they are and then act accordingly. because every one doesn't think the same way. and their are some certain ways to handle some people that might change them even better than we expect.

You will need to follow below steps in brief:

1-      As a team leader you will need first to monitor the team to catch the weakness & discuss how to improve & that can be through emails or by schedule training.

2-      After first step done if same mistakes happened again you can shift the staff to another Dept. matching his skills as he may perform better.

3-      After second step done if same mistakes happened again  you will need to provide warning letter to the staff based on poor performance or misbehavior…
