Active listening is what we should do in any kind of communication.

 

In a general way "Active listening" is a communication technique that implies that, during the communication process, the receiver interpret and understand the message that the sender transmits.

 

And it´s important to fully understand the meaning of the message that you receive because usually a lot of the information we heard during a conversation does not arrive properly or is misunderstood by the listener.

 

Thus learn to listen is essential to develop an appropriate communication for effective communication.

 

You have to understand the other's perspective, giving the utmost attention and be available for what you have to say, we must also pay attention to gestures and emotions shown during the communication process.

 

It is important to realize that listening is not listening. "You can hear a noise or sound but active listening involves a conscious effort."

 

It helps alot...mainly because you are giving signs to the other person that he/she is being understood and you are in fact understanding what it´s being communicated.

You can give verbal and non-verbal signs to reinforce this fact.  Words like "I understand" in the middle of a phrase, like "I see", questions like "so you want to mean...?", "so, if I understood the ...., right?", and so on. In non-verbal communication I can refer approval movements with our head, look directly to your interlocutor, have an enthusiastic posture, etc..etc.

"Active listening" is what we used to call "listening".

"Listening" must always be distinguished from "hearing".   Just because you heard your team member talk doesn't mean that you actually listened to what they were saying.
