I have no degree nor any course for any kind of Project Management but I have learned that myself the long way and I am so proud that I did and I can call myself a good Project Management guy and have more than one successful project working on them at the same time :)

So, in short, NO. There is NO need to obtain any kind of degree ;)

In my humble opinion, an ideal project manager should know everything about the outcome of the project, e.g. if we are talking about being the project of a refinery, PM should be a process engineer or a mechanical engineer with good knowledge on pressure vessels, piping, exchangers, rotating equipment, valves, etc. Masters degree may be a good prerequisite, however  only in case it's obtained in a related field. MBA, for example , is useless for engineering projects. It helps only to have a better communication with the financial controllers of it. What I mean is that a PM must, primarily, give a solution to project customer's needs. And, this solution is , irrespective economists like it or not,  technical.

I will go with having a Master Degree from a Business School. The PM must know the Business lingo and needs to communicate with upper/lower management at the same time.

Of course. The master degree, especially in management like MBA, is very useful for project management profession.

Masters degree is certainly advantage...but core is that individual must have worked on Real life Projects.. where he/she has been invovlved in Cost, effort, resource estimation. Theories are good but nothing can beat the Practical experience.

My2 cents :)

Having an engineering degree will add value to the position. But, having additional qualification  in Project Management will also help  overall activities as a PM

Depends on and it varies man to man. College degree contains overall knowleage a like sea. So Master's degree a big plus factor to be a visionery....Project Management is a branch with tectical and know how. Some be seasoned and expert with more than a degree holder that doesn't mean degree holder is inclined..
