Our impact counter is designed for precisely this purpose. Careful study of more than 40 projects over an 18-month period allowed us to construct weighted “multiplier factors” based on project and destination profiles and to develop this useful and unique tool.

For example, say your destination was considering a bike share program to make bicycles available on a short-term basis as a way of providing a low-cost and low-impact alternative to cars and other forms of transportation.  You would input some basic profile data about the business, location and project type, and using pre-established calculation assumptions, the counter would generate information on your total direct, indirect and induced impact—in other words, the number of people who would potentially benefit from the bike-share program.

Perhaps you are considering whether to invest in signage for a local protected area or starting a guest donation program that would allow guests to contribute to a community-based sustainability project. Input basic information and the impact counter will help you determine the number of lives you could impact through your investment.

Cultural tourism (or culture tourism) is the subset of tourism concerned with a country or region's culture, specifically the lifestyle of the people in those geographical areas, the history of those people, their art, architecture, religion(s), and other elements that helped shape their way of life. Cultural tourism includes tourism in urban areas, particularly historic or large cities and their cultural facilities such as museums and theatres. It can also include tourism in rural areas showcasing the traditions of indigenous cultural communities (i.e. festivals, rituals), and their values and lifestyle, as well as niches like industrial tourism and creative tourism. It is generally agreed that cultural tourists spend substantially more than standard tourists do. This form of tourism is also becoming generally more popular throughout the world, and a recent OECD report has highlighted the role that cultural tourism can play in regional development in different world regions.
