There are many factors to be considered while recruiting, Some times we have to give priority to racism, if the job requirement demands and some times we have to give priority to professional experience. It is very difficult to stick to one particular factor in Recruiting Professionals in a multi facet country like UAE, you have to go with the flow to justify your target.

Thanks Loraine to ask this question as it s close to reality.

My observation is it depends on the need. some jobs are towards more nationality driven as compared to experience due to cultural mind set.

If I am a recruiter I will prefer Experience as it matter but I know the reality is different :)

According to my experience, both are equally important based on the Government rules and Country's educational growth ratio?

The Company's top management interest and Hiring Manager's mentality are also a decision point on this concept.

Professional experience, required qualification and skill set would be the determining criteria in selecting a candidate, in mult- culture country ..

In theory, professional experience, required qualification and skill set would be the determining criteria in selecting a candidate. However, so many factors come to play during final selection- the language ability, cultural orientation, and so on. (I am bit reluctant to call racism?). Let us say, for some job, knowledge of local language and local culture would be useful. Then certainly, the recruiter would put some extra weights on this issue. Probably, in International Business or in Accounting, the factor of local language and culture is not an issue.

Finally, it always happens that the supervisor play a good role in selection process and his preferences with some sort of justification would matter a lot.  Thanks to Ms. Krupa K' Atluri, HR officer for her candid comments "you have to go with the flow to justify your target".

More likely the professional experience.

As a recruter I will never select a a futur employee based on his race !

The employee family background is more relevant

In addition to the answers, and as per your question "in a multi-cultural country", therefore I would say that profession should weigh more for recruiters !

Thank You

Profession should be the one which should have more weightage over race. But in some companies race is give highest preference.
