The current approaches used for marketing can be categorized in three categories and compared as follows:First:  Relationship marketing

This approach basically deals with customer satisfaction. The whole emphasis is done on the relationship between the suppliers and customers. Relationship marketing is a facet of customer relationship management (CRM) that focuses on customer loyalty and long-term customer engagement rather than shorter-term goals like customer acquisition and individual sales. The goal of relationship marketing (or customer relationship marketing) is to create strong, even emotional, customer connections to a brand that can lead to ongoing business, free word-of-mouth promotion and information from customers that can generate leads.

Relationship marketing stands in contrast to the more traditional transactional marketing approach, which focuses on increasing the number of individual sales. In the transactional model, the return on customer acquisition cost may be insufficient. A customer may be convinced to select that brand one time, but without a strong relationship marketing strategy, the customer may not come back to that brand in the future. While organizations combine elements of both relationship and transactional marketing, customer relationship marketing is starting to play a more important role for many companies.

b2b marketing

Effective relationship marketing involves a variety of overlapping strategies and technologies that help foster a deeper, long-term relationship with current and prospective customers.

Second:  Business Marketing

It does not focuses on consumer products rather it focuses on industrial goods. All sort of marketing techniques are like promotion, advertising, etc are used. B2B marketing techniques rely on the same basic principles as consumer marketing, but are executed in a unique way.

While consumers choose products based not only on price but on popularity, status, and other emotional triggers, B2B buyers make decisions on price and profit potential alone. At its core, B2B marketing involves building valuable relationships to guarantee lasting customers -- an important goal for any company, whether a mega retail corporation or a smaller family-owned one.  The B2B market is the largest of all the markets, and exceeds the consumer market in dollar value. Companies like GE and IBM spend an estimated $60 million a day on goods that support the operation of their business. B2B marketing is largely employed by companies that make products that consumers have no practical use for, such as steel. However, it is also used by companies selling products and services bought by consumers and other businesses alike.

Third:  Social marketing: It focuses on marketing a product socially i.e. online.

Now days in vast technological world no organization can survive without social marketing, hence you will require a strong social networking methodology to market your business product. this help with choosing which stages are most appropriate to your business, the substance of your online content and in addition the best times to distribute the data. In recent days world is witnessing a change in consumerism. The market is now predominantly consumer driver. The focus is shifting for product based marketing to need based marketing.

The focus on customers/consumers has increased more as the consumption era also shifts to post-consumption; where organizations are obliged to render more services in addition to what they provide as offers to their customers. In fact, their satisfaction is the most important tool that helps to increase sales and generate profits in the business environment. Moreover, the importance of customer satisfaction and service quality has been proven relevant to help improve the overall performance of organizations.

This indicate that the current approaches shifted to relationship marketing.

The difference is more focus on post consumption increased to retain customer and achieve maximum satisfaction.

The approaches depends on what sort off business u have. If you are in tough B2B as a corporate culture then u need to follow B2B marketing as priority and less on social media

IF you are in B2C more focus on retail and social marketing  and less on B2B.

Remember the marketing approach you need to adopt where u have more audience and after activity you have leads which have potential dollars attached with it.
