Medical sales representatives are a key link between medical and pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals. We sell our company's products, which include medicines, prescription drugs, to a variety of customers including GPs and hospital doctors, pharmacists and nurses. We work strategically to increase the awareness and use of the company's pharmaceutical and medical products.

As Medical sales reps are usually based in my specific geographical location and specialize in a particular product or medical area. They may make presentations and organize group events for healthcare professionals, as well as working with contacts on a one-to-one basis.

Responsibilities

In any setting, the process of selling involves contacting potential customers, identifying their needs, persuading them that your products or services (rather than those of competitors) can best satisfy those needs; closing the sale by agreeing the terms and conditions; and providing an after-sales service. Medical sales representatives do all of this and more.

Duties often include:

  • arranging appointments with doctors, pharmacists and hospital medical teams, which may include pre-arranged appointments or regular 'cold' calling;
  • making presentations to doctors, practice staff and nurses in GP surgeries, hospital doctors and pharmacists in the retail sector. Presentations may take place in medical settings during the day, or may be conducted in the evenings at a local hotel or conference venue;
  • organizing conferences for doctors and other medical staff;
  • building and maintaining positive working relationships with medical staff and supporting administrative staff;
  • managing budgets (for catering, outside speakers, conferences, hospitality, etc.);
  • keeping detailed records of all contacts;
  • reaching (and if possible exceeding) annual sales targets;
  • planning work schedules and weekly and monthly timetables. This may involve working with the area sales team or discussing future targets with the area sales manager. Generally, medical sales executives have their own regional area of responsibility and plan how and when to target health professions;
  • regularly attending company meetings, technical data presentations and briefings;

Specific Duties And Responsibilities Of The Post :

·         Deliver the service elements within the five year operating plan, demonstrating commercial focus, a structured approach, intelligence and enthusiasm.

  • Establish, in conjunction with All Departments, and then to monitor, clear performance targets, both quantitative and qualitative, for the Central Operational Management Team, informed by those activities, which will significantly improve operational performance.

·         Ensure that the performance of the Central Operational Management Team is efficient, effective and delivered within budget.

  • To establish, in conjunction with All Departments, clear performance targets, both quantitative and qualitative, for the Central Operational Management Team, informed by targets, which will significantly improve operational performance.  To monitor delivery of these targets and to take steps to address any inadequacy.
  • Growth target through extending current markets and developing new services and new markets.

·         Contribute to the development of company strategy through a thorough, current understanding of the local and national policy context, local competitive forces and local business opportunities, including new sources of sustainable funding.

  • Explore tale-health and assistive technology to identify new product development opportunities, to enhance service provision and increase the company’s market share opportunities.

 

Leadership:

·         Provide professional leadership to all operational staff at all levels throughout the company.

  • Ensure in conjunction with the Manager of HR, that all members of the Central Operations Management Team have credible and challenging Personal Development Plans and to oversee their delivery.

·         Raise the profile and reputation of the organisation by working closely with partners in the local health and social care economy.

·         Maintain an evidence based culture, which is person centred, commands the confidence of commissioners and costumers, and promotes multi-disciplinary and cross organisational working. 

  • Contribute to the company’s Talent Management processes, supporting staff with identified potential to realize and achieve their full potential within the company.

 

Board Level Responsibilities And Accountabilities:

·         To develop Key Performance Indicators for all Operational and to provide comprehensive monthly reports to the Owner.

·         Shared responsibility with All Departments for overseeing systems used throughout the organisation to ensure customer and staff safety is compliant with governance requirements and health and safety legislation in partnership with the Governance lead and team.
