A candidate responds to your questions with monosyllabic answers. How would you draw him or her out?

During interview you should expect some "wrong" answers from interviewee, also there are some primary questions and others are secondary... In anyway interview should be completed even interviewee is not really ready, and interviewer should clarifies question if they are unclear !
