HVAC is not electrical control

BMS a.k.a CBMS (central Building management system) consists of many streams as listed below

1. PMCS (power monitoring & control system)

2. BMS ( Building management system)

3. ETS( Equipments & monitoring)

 the list goes on

HVAC is mostly BMS

its not safe to remote control HV breakers Unless we have ATS (automatic transfer switches)

well to be honest i am getting your question clearly, that what you actually asking, but if i know one thing about success, get knowledge, learn skills save it and when chance come use it, as for comparing HVAC and Building Management , they are totally different things, But i think Building Management  is Efficient for Electrical control. as you can't have Hydraulic or Pneumatic control in Building management (BMS) as they are more complex costly for buildings/

As I understand you are asking if Hvac control system is enough for a control engineer to be skillful. The answer is no. You can check this link for skill is important for differ type of engineer. The control engineer should know Hvac control with other items http://ncees.org/exams/pe-exam/

A well programmed BMS system can be very much efficient in handling HVAC systems. HVAC systems linked with BMS can increase the energy efficiency of the building by 10-30 %.
