These are two common types of twisted pair cabling , STP and UTP.

STP- S stands for Shielded ,TP stand for TP stands for twisted pair.

UTP- U stands for Unshielded ,

STP cables ensure that you get the maximum bandwidth from your cabling even if the external condition is less than ideal.

STP is commonly used by large scale companies in high-end applications that require the maximum bandwidth.

 

UTP cables have no protection against such interference and its performance is often degraded in its presence.

UTP is the more prevalent and popular cabling that is used in most homes, offices, and even in large scale businesses due to its lower cost.

A Twisted Pair is a pair of copper wires, with diameters of 0.4 -0.8mm , twisted together and wrapped with a plastic coating. The twisting increases the electrical noise immunity, and reduces the bit error rate (BER) of the data transmission.

Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) : STP is heavier and more difficult to manufacture, but it can greatly improve the signaling rate in a given transmission scheme Twisting provides cancellation of magnetically induced fields and currents on a pair of conductors. Magnetic fields arise around other heavy current-carrying conductors and around large electric motors. 

 

Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) : UTP is the copper media, inherited from telephony, which is being used for increasingly higher data rates, and is rapidly becoming the de facto standard for horizontal wiring, the connection between, and including, the outlet and the termination in the communication closet.

In terms of usage, UTP is the more prevalent and popular cabling that is used in most homes, offices, and even in large scale businesses due to its lower cost. STP is commonly used by large scale companies in high-end applications that require the maximum bandwidth. STP cables are also used in outdoor environments where the cables are exposed to the elements and manmade structures and equipment that may introduce additional interference.

STP simply means Shielded Twisted Pair Cable meaning the cable has an extra shield material that is used to cancel out external interference that may be introduced into the cable STP cable ensure that you get maximum bandwidth while on the other hand UTP meaning Unshielded twisted pair cable means the cable does not have that extra protection from external interference hence hindering performance and bandwithd.

STP is shielded twisted pair while UTP is Unshielded twisted pair. when used in computer networks cabling, STP is more expensive compared to UTP but it gives less interference an noise to the network.

STP give max bandwidth then UTP 

with STP we face Less Noise and interference then UTP
