Working with instrumental part of liquid chromatographic analysis, there are two major parts
1. 1. separation of analyte.
2. 2.detection of analyte.
Separation wise both HPLC and LCMS works on same (Liqiud chromatography)principle and instrumentation part too same for separation, but both these instrumental techniques majorly differ at their detection technique with different instrumention.
In LCMS detection done by mass number of analyte employing mass detector, while most of the HPLC detection of analyte done by absorption of UV light employing UV detector. Based on application sometimes PDA/Refractive Index/Fluorescence/Conductance detectors also employed in HPLC analysis.
LCMS is Liquid chromatography with Mass spectrometer , which haveseparatio compounantwith mass identifier, identify the mass of the compunenent but HPLC is seperation of the compounant
LCMS Separates on bases of Masses and HPLC sparates on bases of afinity towards stationary phase and mobile phase.
LCMS sepearte and detect analytes on the basis of masses, while HPLC seperate and detect on the basis of affinity of analytes toward stationary and mobile phase.
In LCMS one can identify the impurity masses and there respective fragmentation pattern for structural ilucidation
working of hplc is seperation of analytes ande detection of the percentage of each analyte.

in lcms determination of mass(m/z) value of each anlyte seperated in lc
HPLC means high performance liquid chromatography is seperation techniqe that mainly used to seperate the component and identify and to quantify eac h comonent in to mixture. LCMS Is combination of mass specroscopy and liquid chromatography.its gives the mass analysis abilities of seperated component.
An LC-MS is an HPLC system with a mass detector.
