Routing protocols are used exchange routes between the routers. e.g RIP, OSPF ,EIGRP.

where Routed protocols are used to send and receive data from one device(computer) to another. like the most famous is IP.

Routing protocols distribute routing information throughout all routers on a network. By knowing about all other routers connected to the network, each router can determine the best path to use to deliver your traffic. Examples of routing protocol would be OSPFRIPEIGRP or BGP.

Routed protocols can be sent over a routed network. Today, with IP (think ofTCP/IP) being the predominate protocol in use on the Internet and in most networks, we don't often think about routed versus unrouted protocols. That is because IP is a routed protocol. Meaning, IP is designed to be routed over and through different networks. This is because the IP address is broken up into network and node (host) by the subnet mask. An example of a protocol that is not routed (unroutable) would be NetBIOS. It works great on a small local network (in your house) but wouldn't work well over a large network connected by dedicated network circuits or the Internet.

Routed Protocols

A Routed Protocol is a network protocol which can be used to send the user data from one network to another network. Routed Protocol carries user traffic such as e-mails, file transfers, web traffic etc.

Routed protocols use an addressing system, ie IP address which can address a particular network and a host (a computer, server, network printer etc) inside that network. In other words, the address which is used by a Routed Protocol (Example (Internet protocol) has a network address part and a host (a computer inside a network) part.

IP (Internet protocol) is the most widely used Routed Protocol. Internet is using IP (IPv4 or IPv6) as its Routed Protocol. Other Routed protocols are vanishing from network industry.

A Routed Protocol is an integral part of network protocol suit and it is available in every device which is participating in network communication (Example, Routers, Switches, Computers etc).

Routing Protocol

A Routing Protocol learns routes (path) for a Routed Protocol and IP, IPX (Internetwork Packet Exchange) and Appletalk are the examples of Routed Protocols.

Routing Protocols are network protocols used to dynamically advertise and learn the networks connected, and to learn the routes (network paths) which are available. Routing protocols running in different routers exchange updates between each other and most efficient routes to a destination. Routing Protocols have capacity to learn about a network when a new network is added and detect when a network is unavailable.

Routing protocols are only used in between routers to build and maintain routing tables such as distance vector protocols, link state protocols and hybrid protocols.

Routed protocols route the data such as IP, Apple Talk, IPx. Routed protocols need addressing and subnetting schemes to route the data.

Routing protocols: specifies how routers communicate with each other, disseminating information that enables them to select routes between any two nodes on a computer network. RIP, OSPF, IS-IS, EIGRP and  BGP are the examples of Routing Protocols.

Routed protocols are network protocols which can be used to send the user data from one network to another network. IP (Internet Protocol), IPX (Internetwork Packet Exchange) and Appletalk are the examples of Routed Protocols.

Routing protocol: routers use routing protocols to communicate with each other  to learn about remote networks.Routing protocols has two main types.

  1. Interior Routing protocol(IGP):the routers under the same autonomous system can use it such as RIP,OSPF and EIGRP.
  2. Exterior Routing protocol(EGP):the routers use it to communicate with routers in other autonomous systems.EGP is like BGP.

Routed protocol: is a protocol by which data can be routed. Routed protocol are IP, AppleTalk, and IPX

Routing Protocol are protocols which selecte the appropriate path for data flow depand on their algorithm or behavior. expample are RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP.

Routed Protocol are protocol which carry data, perform ip addressing example are IP,IPX,AppleTalk.

1. Routing protocols : these protocols provide path to data packets. E,g. RIP,OSPF,EIGRP,BGP,IS-IS

2.Routed Protocols: Path needs to be provide to these protocols E.g. Ip,Ipv6,http,ftp

A routed protocol is a protocol by which data can be routed. Routed protocol are IP, AppleTalk, and IPX. In this kind of protocols we require an addressing scheme and subnetting. Addressing scheme will be used to determine the network to which a host belongs and to identifying that host on that particular network. All hosts on an internetwork are using the services of a routed protocol. That means routers, servers, and workstations to. The only two routed protocols that are in use today are IP and IPX but IPX is dropped from Cisco in exams and is not in use much these days. If you are studying routed protocols the best advice is to focus on IP routed protocol. A routing protocol is different and is only used between routers. It makes possible for routers to build and maintain routing tables. There are three classes of routing protocols- 1)distance vector, 2)link state,3)hybrid OSPF is one of two link state protocols, the other one is IS-IS. EIGRP is the only hybrid protocol but in normal literature you will see that EIGRP is distance vector routing protocol.

Routing protocol are those protocol who carry the updates of route like RIP, EIGRP, OSPF and BGP.

Routed protocol are those protocol who carry the end user data from source to destination like IPv4, AppleTalk, IPv6
