Write A LOT. And not only for your own blog(s) but for others as well. Guest blogging is also a good idea. Then writing for top trending websites is good.
Commenting on other blogs is also a good way to build a good rank and market yourself.
When writing, try different ideas. sometimes go as long as Google loves it (but keeping the content interesting. And sometimes use your creative side and upload infographics.
Also, pay a little attention towards video marketing.
There are plenty of ways to improve your ranking. But always remember to write for your AUDIENCE and not for the SPIDERS.
Make sure to read your audience, meaning watch their trends and see what they like to read and talk about. Generally, if you write about the same things they enjoy reading about then you'll get a larger following, Also, find out what's important in their world. Do they have trouble finding good food? Are they women who can't find the right clothes, the right babysitters, etc.? Do you have a broader, more diverse audience who loves to tour around countries but can't find the right spot to hang out at? This is what you need to know. Get that down and you'll be on your way to optimizing your audience, captivating them, and getting them to tell their friends about your blog. Also, offer ways for them to connect with you on Social Media and ways for them to share your posts with their friends, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram buttons are very helpful.
There are thousands of blogs posted everyday across the globe and it is becoming difficult to bring the attention to one's blog/website.
For you to achieve that, you should focus on two things; quality content and promotion of that content.
With all due to respect, I disagree with writing lots of content. Please do not fall this. What matters is the quality and take away value of your post to the readers.
Writing content is just half of work. Other half is promoting. The difference between getting traffic and not getting one is promotion. By promotion I do not mean paid advertising. You need to perform certain activities to ensure your content gets in front of the right audience.
