What's the process of taking a new material from the lab into manufacturing?

Depending on the type of Planning/implementation  it could be:

Work/Job in Process.

Work/Design Validation

Work /Design Pilot Validation

Product Realization

If you are referring to the marketing stage, it is the "introduction" stage.

[Step 2] Product/service definitionGoal: define project goals and general characteristics of a product(s) or service(s) based on market, customer, and user needs.

[Step 3] Product concept feasibilityGoal: begin to develop a concrete picture of what the new product or service will look like.

Step 4] Design and development, design verificationGoal: complete the design activity and verify the final product prototype against your established criteria (i.e., technical specifications). Proof-of-concept field testing and feasibility simulations may also be done at this stage.

[Step 5] Scale-up: design validation, transfer to pilot production, process validationGoal: validate the product or service design and manufacturing process.
