what Abdo said above is100% what you need basic knowledge of server and network.

courses like MCITP,MCSE and REDHAT for servers and CCNA and JNCIA for routing and switching are requirement to be an admin.

scico is a network lead so its CCNA certfication is the basic then you have to choose Routing, Switching or securty you can do both also you have to see redhat linux and microsoft server platforms. then you can go with firewalls and so on.
