Social media is VIRAL. It has the widest coverage direct consumer approach tool available out there. Perhaps the most cost effective media platform for everybody, plus it's easy and quick in information dissemination.

I think that  social media marketing gives "a long term advantage"  for businesses in various fields as follows :

1. Building a qualified and engaged follower base on Social Media allows you to deliver your message to hundreds, thousands or even millions of people (depending of your business size) at the lowest possible cost.

2. SMM is the best way to deliver real time marketing messages. For example you could inform your followers of a special offer or new product arrival within minutes. The only thing you would need is a short message, maybe some kind of visual and a link to your website or the address of your business (if offline).

  3. SMM allows you also to improve your search engine rankings. Talking long term advantage this one is probably the best example. Building your brand on social media will help your business to take more space on search engines and improve rankings and prevent cyber squatting.

Definately marketers could use social media analysis to improve marketing efficiency. Even so, when you manage multiple social media it's critically important to find best time for posting, best performing social networks, which posts have the highest engagement and reach. Just refer to social media analytics report Social media management tools KUKU.io(before i used it only for social media management). It's a really good alternative for buffer and hootsuite when you find something easy and cheap.

3 Reasons Why Social Media is One of the Most Important Marketing Tools

Kiev, Ukraine - August, - A collection of well-known social media brands printed on paper and placed on plastic signs. Include Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google Plus, Instagram and Tumblr logos.

“Follow me on Instagram!” read the text. “Amber __ added you on Facebook!” said the notification. Years ago, those sentences would have been meaningless, but today, in our personal lives, social media has become a vital part of how we connect with others. The same is true for brands trying to market themselves on social media.

Here are3 reasons why social has become a key component of marketing programs:

Social media builds communities.

If you do it right, building your brand means connecting your audiences within a larger community. Social media allows people who are interested in a brand to connect not only with that brand but also with each other. For example, my dad only has5 friends on Facebook, but follows every move of the “Game of Thrones” Facebook page. Creating engaging posts and great content makes social one of the most important tools in a marketer’s arsenal. It enwraps users into the loving embrace of a community bigger than themselves but in which they play a role – and makes them more likely to engage with the brand in terms of using/buying.

Social media is a microscope into the petri dish of user feedback.

Social media is one of the main platforms for consumers to express themselves, which includes both praise and complaints. You can probably remember the last time you sent out a Tweet praising your meal at a restaurant or complaining about an airline, for example. With a proper monitoring strategy, brands can keep track of their mentions and respond in real time – making amends or just letting customers know they’re listening and that they care. In industries where public image is everything, social media lets marketers tap into sentiment they might not otherwise get to see and convert brand haters into brand celebrators.

Social media lets customers, who you might never have known how to reach, find you.

Pretend you’re managing Pinterest for your brand, posting great content, the works. Someone goes looking in the feed of users they follow to find some great new content for their “wedding” board (I promised myself I wouldn’t make one, but I caved). They see that one of the people they follow has repined a pin you posted, one that showcases your brand of wedding planning services. You attract their interest, they re-pin the pin that caught their eye, and before you know it they’ve become a customer. Such is the seemingly magical power of using social media. You never know who you can reach by using social media as a marketing tool, and you can attract a lot of customers to your brand that might never have come your way

Executive Summary          In this report, I will be discussing about the importance of presence in social networking platforms in regards to digital marketing. Furthermore, I will be focusing on the advantages and different ways of advertising on Facebook and YouTube, the top 2 largest social networks in the world.  Why Is Social Media Important?           Why is social media important? When you think of the average users of social media, you may think of prodigal adolescents, who mindlessly scroll down their Facebook newsfeeds procrastinating when they should be writing their papers or studying for their finals. While this popular image may not be so inaccurate, social media plays a big role in digital marketing. Ask any Fortune 500 executive, small business owner, or sole proprietor what the most effective form of marketing is, and I guarantee the answer, without hesitation, is word of mouth.[1]Word of mouth is not a new concept, but what happens when this is taken to another level? What happens when word of mouth goes to World of Mouth?                    Word of Mouth                       World of Mouth

As depicted by the Word of Mouth model above, information can be slow to spread. This model would work something like this: Timmy has a great experience with his computer program, and tells his friend Sandy about it and so on down the line. It’s a simple model that works, but it’s not optimal. There are a few shortcomings with this model. They are:  1.    The information can be slow to spread.[2]2.    The original information can be altered as it changes hands.[3]3.    Sandy’s friends may not know much about Timmy, so the information lacks personal opinion.[4]                    Social media helps overcome these imperfections. In the World of Mouth model, Timmy tells Sandy about the computer program, and Sandy follows up with a status update in her favorite social media platform. This results in a fast exchange of information. While traditional word of mouth can be slow to spread, the opposite is true for Facebook status updates, or even Twitter, which gives you access to hundreds of millions of users who have the ability to read your messages. Additionally, since the information is in digital format, it is less likely to be misunderstood of diluted over time.[5]This is like the children’s game “telephone,” a game where you sit in a circle and start with a phrase like “yellow banana” as it’s passed around the circle via whispers or word of mouth from child to child until the last one squeals “yell at the bandana!”[6]When the message or information is passed digitally as it does in the case of social media, however, it is less likely to lose its original intent. Lastly, because Sandy tweets about the computer program, her friends online can read her recommendation, as opposed to reluctantly be skeptical since Sandy’s friends may not know Timmy at all.      Social media helps traditional word of mouth methods overcome these imperfections, yet as of July 2012, 70 percent of big company CEOs have no presence on social networks.[7]As stated earlier, this report will be focusing on Facebook and YouTube, the top 2 largest social networks in the world.[8] Advertising on Facebook          Facebook is an online social networking service. It’s currently the largest social networking website in the world in terms of monthly active users. Before the internet, it was very unlikely that the average person would advertise. Many businesses used the Yellow Pages or radio, but not all. Even in the first decade of the 21st century, only 9 percent of media companies used internet advertising, since many found that pay-per-click was too expensive.[9]With today’s Facebook ads, the market opportunity is bigger than ever. They can reach as many or even more people than radio or television ads, and are not restricted by country. Facebook ads also have sophisticated targeting, making sure that the money you spend on their ads will mainly be seen by your target demographic. Additionally, advertising on Facebook is relatively cheap. It only costs 25 cents to reach out to 1,000 people on Facebook using their ads, which is less than 1 percent of advertising on television.[10]Advertising on Facebook is relatively simple: 1.    A business creates an ad.[11]2.    Facebook gets paid to show the ad.[12]3.    The right people see the ad.[13]           Let’s say a small casino opens up in your city. The owner creates an ad to get people to come in for a free poker game. The owner sends the ad to Facebook and describes who should see it: people who live nearby and playing cards. Once the ad is in place, it will be shown to people who lives in the same city and like playing poker. All in all, Facebook ads help raise brand awareness, have good targeting, require very little commitment, and are relatively affordable when compared to alternative media advertising.  Advertising on YouTube          YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, view, and share videos. YouTube’s growing prominence in popular culture shows that it has become a highly effective venue for accessing massive audiences through online advertising. To put things in perspective, YouTube gets over 1 billion views per day.[14]If YouTube was a search engine, it would be the second largest, nearly twice as big as Bing and Yahoo search combined, and roughly a third the size of Google.[15]          There are plenty of reasons why YouTube advertising is better than television for both viewers and businesses. First, there is no need to be at home to watch it. YouTube is available on hundreds of millions of mobile devices, and mobile makes up almost 40 percent of YouTube’s global watch time.[16]Therefore, consumers can watch advertisements while waiting in line at a coffee shop or when showing their friends a funny cat video on their phones.           Second, YouTube is free, so anyone with internet can access their videos. Television advertising can cost a great deal, and the more popular the program the more expensive it will be.[17]Additionally, with television, many people use the advertisements to leave the room to make a drink or use the restroom, so often times the advertisement may be screened to an empty room. Furthermore, for in-slate videos ads, or ads that play before the video starts, there is an option for viewers to skip the ad after 5 or so seconds. If a user skips the ad, it will not count toward your spend. You only pay when a user watches the video all the way through.[18]          And last, links can be sent from YouTube. If something is seen on television it will be seen only once until the advertisement is played again.[19]Let’s say you found a funny commercial you want to show your friend. You can’t just turn on the television and expect it to be there unless it was recorded. With YouTube consumers can show others a video that can be watched as often as they want. Conclusion          Social media marketing can have a big effect. Something that can start with a single post on Facebook can transmogrify into blog posts, tweets, worldwide press and every other form of social media in between.[20]Social media has lately been becoming a big part of the digital market, as you may have noticed a lot of businesses have links to their Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ page on their websites. Ultimately, having a presence in social media platforms can help businesses connect and engage with consumers.
