How do you manage your volunteers? If you coordinate them online, what system are you using?

The way we do it is to split the projects into tasks, and assign one leader to the related tasks. Each leader will work with his team independantly, and report the updates to the project manager Periodically.

the leader usually communicates with his team  electronically, and by phone sometimes; we don't like to waste a lot of time in meetings. We are not using any specific software or something.
