It depends what you mean by "television". What is the essential feature of "television"? Is it transmitted by radio waves? If it comes down a wire is it still television? What about wifi? Is Netflix a kind of television? (Given that every film available on Netflix has been, will be or could be broadcast on conventional television.)
Traditionally television provided two services: an evening's entertainment, or individual programmes that a given viewer might find attractive.
Think about the term "channel". In the world of TV this means a series of discrete programmes curated and supplied by one broadcaster. In Youtube it usually means an intermittant sequence of programmes usually made by one content-maker.
It might be interesting to consider the bankruptcy rate of TV companies over the last 20 years.
Shrining dramatically mainly because own the convergence of TV and computers.
yes I think soical media and smartphones now is the most importnant products than TV as all the whole world can knows the poor and importnant news in details by social media faster than the TV .
Also most of the Younger generation watching the new films on Youtube and downloading musics before it's impart on TV.
no one can deny the importance of the tv role
Of course it is still important since not all people has internet specially in Countries like Egypt
no one can deny the importance of the tv role
TV is still important and will be important always there can be a no replace for the television... even if social media or smartphones reach great heights advertising on television would be as important as it was earlier and as it is now....
The reason is no matter what kind of smart phone u use or how many hours u be on social media u anyhow wuld like to sit along with ur family and watch tv and entertain urself every one does that... the thing is many connects there devices to tv, download movies from net and then watch on tv with everyone... you can say it like television's role is linking or getting mixed with the revolution of social media and smartphones but not shrinking...
Thats what i feel...
Do I think if the TV role is shrinking or no due to social media and smartphones??
Its role isn't, but surely TVs are.. i feel the TV can never go extinct as all the advanced technology somehow still has a way to get connected to the TV and surely the TVs are themselves getting smart.
It is obvious, that social media getting stronger day by day and it makes people be involved every single minute, but if TV still keeps on, that means somebody need it, I supposed.
In my county persons of ripe years are watching TV daily and they are engaged in this process and even buy some stuff they've seen the commercial of. On the other hand, the youth including me reject the television at all and follow the conception "in Internet we trust". So I think the TV still has a chance, but in the nearest future the social media will completely destroy it.
No it'd not however the digtal medium gives brands more numerical and figure based consumer response but the TV would always be a large medium especially in countries who're developing.
Well tv is still playing itmajor role in the media landscape the involvement of social and smartphones are just compliments to the already existing plaforms, advancement of technonly is just adding value to the main media but cant erase it entirely from our system. It is good because now media houses are now up in arms to create more content both for the social media platforms and for the main media so now its even enlarging the scope of coverage than shrinking it.
so the social media and smartphones platforms is more of helping the TV media than destroying it.
