I do not think so because the songwriter presents an autobiographical or societal position and does not offer a service to humanity worthy of being awarded the Nobel Prize.

Actually, it depends. In our days we have a large scale of low quality songs. Unfortunately, it is the responsibility of the nowadays songwriters. What we have in our days is not ancient songs just like what we had in the early's of 20th century. The songwriters of Um Kalthoom or Abdulwahab or even Abdulhaleem Hafez deserve to be eligible for Nobel Prize because they add something to life. Their songs are still sung till our days. I think that we need to filter songwriters according to their songs in case we want to accept the notion of accepting their eligibility to Nobel Prize.

Based on the question ,yes I believe song writers should receive Nobel Price for their art; indeed it is like poetry, social commentary, autobiography, and more. It takes as much and more skill to write a song and then add suitable music to it.

Songs play an important role in our society and the world as words are the greatest weapon one can have and knowing how to use it can do good or evil, give life or death, cause war or peace.

The sentiments expressed in a song will last for generations and centuries also just as poetry or historical data.

Songs can empower an individual as poetry and move them even more when music accompany  it.  Songs are being ranked these days with titles such as song of the century- such as Bob Marley's "One love ,one heart".
