Letting a waiting customer know he has not been forgotten is critical! I would keep the person informed at all times so he/she is aware and can make their decision on what they would want to do with their time.

In every business offices and companies, there are reception and admins takes place. So for the guests, visitors and clients who always visits the company, make sure that they are feel at home and having a good time while patiently waiting at the reception area. Greet them and assist them in a nice and professional way. Serve them coffee or tea or offer them any reading articles like magazines and brochures of the company if they want. For them to feel that they are pleasantly welcome in the company.

Must make the guest  feel at home and  It does'nt matter, how many times the guests visit your organisation(may be new quest or Familiar guest). you should always greet him/ her  or a group ,as if you are greeting your family members.  Sense of humour and gratitude is always a must. Keep them busy. Indulge them in entertaining or interactive activities which they are unilkely to finish until their waiting time is over. A good collection of magazines, welcome drinks or snacks, artifacts/paintings in the waiting area, a receptionist with warm and welcoming attitude (with a bit of sense of humour), an AV presentation screen and many more options that depend on the situation, environment, waiting time and on who the guests are.

Offering them a drink and magazines and keep talking to them (for not making them feeling bored) and give their kids (if they have) some games to not feel boring too. :)

in my opinion you have to follow these steps to keep them feel welcome - first of all your first impression during meeting them is very important by keeping your smile on your face and greet them warmly at the door if you can and shake their hands and call him by his name if you know him Personally (repeater guest ) give him your attention , offer them drink , keep them busy and try to finish the check in Process as much as you can also you can also feed them meal if they have a small kids if you can do these
