Revit is so time saving, while you are drawing a plan, it automatically apears in3d perspective, tags can be converted for construction drawings too, also you can easily edit any element in your project by editing it on the plan only.

  • There is no easy way to model and rendering in cad but in revit ,2d automaticaly generating3d also there is one option to drag or  placing doors, windows and all library items.
  • cad is very accurate for preparing detailed drawings and very easy to revise,
  • less errors in cad so we can keep file long time.

Rivet is a3D tool with well developed library. Since, its3D amost all fouling shall be rectified in advance and reworks shall be minimized. Best tool for Architecture & MEP works.

AutoCAD is limited to2d. Its3D is very primitive. CAD Engineers need to apply his own imagination to be efficient. Still issues shall be leftout like foulings, wrong sizing etc.

Revit concept is taken out basically from the mechanical design software where2d is drawn and3d is rendered or generated. Thus the2d drawing stays as the backbone while the3d is build up on it and are relative and be distinctive, which means any change in2d changes the3d at the same time one can add features to the3d to change to complex design. Consider two drawing scenario

  • You can draw a rectangle in2d this can be easily converted to cuboid in3d or hollow box in3d or box with a hole in3d while the2d remains as it is
  • Even you can change the cuboid shape to pyramid without changing2d (by putting features on3d)

So the first case is relative and the second is distinctive so the drawing act as both, thus helps the designer to draw and make editing or changes easily.

So one would struggle in creating a3d in AutoCAD while in Revit it would be faster with more flexibility.

There is many way to describe difference between auto CAD and revit. Simply in Auto CAD first we decide that which kind of drawing we are prepare like plan, elevation, or section. We create all these drawings separately with our knowledge and also modify separately. But in revit we are working in one plan. Elevations and section create automatically with accuracy. Also modification in one drawing is linked with all others drawings. We also create schedule and quantities easily through revit.

Hi, Firstly The Name of the software is "Revit" and not "Rivet". I think though being closest in functioning CAD can still not be compared to Revit as it is a complete Methodological shift. Revit is a system within itself. More than2D and3D the basic difference that I feel is that... CAD helped us draw or present a preconceived project, whereas Revit makes you virtually "build" it. It is much of an intense work but with the facility to keep simple as per individual and timely need.

Really you can't compare both. Revit is more advance than CAD in all aspects. If you modify any part of the drawing , Revit will automatically modify that areas in every drawing. In CAD, we have to do it manually. Also Revit's3D capability is far far better than CAD.

Rivet is a 3D tool (mechanical fastening member), while in AUTOCAD you are constrained in 2D drawings.  AUTOCAD is best suited for 2D models not for 3D models because of the complications in planning, analyzing and drawing part.

Revit is specifically for 3D Architectural designs and AutoCAD is both flexible in line work (2D) and 3D designs.
