Shall we stick to HR Related and move away from government, politics and leave those to the legislators....

Every country is run by a Government.  Why any Government is at all required?  We require a Government mainly to look after - defence of the country, policing, judiciary and economy.  For this purpose Government needs to have its offices and employees.  First of all Government needs money to pay for the expenses to run its office and pay its employees.  Secondly Government needs money to run the services mentioned above namely, defence, judiciary, policing etc.  For all these services Government does not charge from the citizens. Secondly India is a welfare state.  This means Government is responsible for the protection and promotion of economic and social well-being of its citizens.  This means Government has to run many services for the people who cannot afford them.  For example Government hospitals, schools, colleges and many more facilities are provided to the general public either for free or at a very nominal cost.  All this requires money.  To meet all these expenses, Government collect taxes.

Each one of us, one way or another, is involved in selling something, some people are selling goods and some sell their services. In return, we receive monetary benefit for selling these services and goods.

Similarly, Government collect taxes from its citizens to provide them services, goods and even to support those who are unemployed (but that is only if its a welfare state). Taxes are also collected to invest in projects of public benefit, to pay state debts etc.
