What does an aircraft mechanic actually do?

aircraft mechanic is everywhere in maintenance but he do what is granted to him by the authority or the AMO internal approval ,so that he can do line maintenance, base maintenance ,component repair ,L/G shop ,engine shop even electric or avionics he can sign as per FAA regulation but limited to replacement all of that depend on the specific tasks he approved for.
