The ultimate goal of the ISO protocol is global/International standardisation. To date ISO is well developed with over 21000 International Standards.

However - ISO Protocol Family. The ISO family of protocols isn't widely used, as the InternetProtocolFamily is much more common today. The traditional means of representing communications protocols is by use of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) seven-layer model. Protocol stacks such as TCP/IP and Signalling System 7 (SS7) do not align exactly with this model, and so it is typically not used in a formal sense to specify protocols and implementations; however as a reference model against which to understand and explain the role of real-world protocols it remains very useful.
