There are various ways to lead generation. To begin with it is important to study the clientele of the competitors. That gives us a broader idea of the sector and the companies. Then a self data base can be prepared by researching online and finding similar companies (catered by the competitor). I would go one step ahead and target the same companies catered by the closet competitor. This gives a chance to explain them how we are better in the services provided and also gauge the strength of the other companies engaged in providing similar services.

 

Google, Yellow pages and other websites can be a good source to target companies fro lead generation. Also, now a days a lot of people sell database of clients which can be used as well.
