CentOS is very close to being RHEL without the branding and support. In particular, the library versions are the same, so binaries that work on one will work on the other. The administration tools are the same and configured in similar ways. However, there are a few differences, as the two distributions sometimes apply different minor patches.

In other words, at the level of your course, you can treat CentOS and RHEL as interchangeable. But if you needed to look up the precise behavior of a program in a corner of the man page, you may encounter differences.

CentOS is the post-release OS of Redhat linux latest version which is released by the redhat employee work-group. CentOS and LINUX are similar in codes and packages.

Redhat Linux is the best in large scale companies and MNC's due to its customer support and security.

Red hat Enterprise Linux in the leading enterprise distribution. They provide whole source fro free, which CentOS, Scientific Linux and Oracle Linux recompile it to get a similar distros.

So, CentOS is almost identical to Red Hat minus the support.

There are some other tools available only on Red Hat (like Satellite) but you may find alternatives (like spacewalk).

You may find more info at: https://www.centos.org/about/

CentOS explicitly aims for complete binary compatibility with RHEL. The only real difference is that they replace the branding-related packages from RHEL and recompile everything else from the sources provided by Red Hat

Difference between CentOS, Fedora, and RHEL. The biggest open source company is nowadays Red Hat. It is known for its contributions to many open source projects, including the Linux kernel itself. Less known is that Red Hat is involved in different Linux distributions, directly or indirectly.
