  • Sponsor: The project sponsor is the person who defines the business objectives that drive the project. The sponsor can be a member of the senior management team or someone from outside of the organisation.
  • Project Manager: A professional project manager creates the project plan and ensures that it meets the budget, schedule and scope determined by the sponsors. The project manager is also responsible for risk assessment and management.
  • Project Team Members: These can include subject area experts, members of departments, external professionals and new recruits. Anyone who can offer a positive contribution to the project in terms of their knowledge and capabilities makes a good team member.

Key factors that contribute in great ( I would rather call it successful project management ) project management are :

1. Understanding the business value ( reason for which the project is started ) or the objectives of the 

     project

2. Managing the project constraints and controlling the project resources

3. Most important of all performing integration management - pulling together all the pieces of the  

    project into a cohesive whole so as to meet the project objectives

Efficient and effective project management includes optimization of project resources (human, financial, time) in order to achieve project objectives, scope, deliverables while managing procurement, risk, communication, integration, stakeholders, vendors. Qualities of leadership, facilitation, negotiation and problem solving is embedded in effective managerial skills
