Simplicity and professionalism. Do not overwhelm it with information and/or graphics. Just keep it simple, a business card is not a presentation or poster, it is a reference to you (or him, whoever).
Here are some pointers:
1. Size: Should be8.5cms x5.5cms since you want the business card to fit in most wallets and business card holders. Do not attempt to make a small sized or two-paged business card since it will look cheap, and cost more.
2. Paper Type: Avoid papers that have extreme patters (Big holes or stripes) and "silky" papers since you do not want the ink to get distorted or smudged. If you decide to laminate the business card then DO NOT use an expensive paper since it won’t make a difference what you use.
3. Paper Color: You are free to choose any paper color, but I advice to stay away from shinny and golden colors. I would recommend Ivory or off-white colors - black would be nice if your industry and logo allows you to do so.
4. Font and Information: do not use unnecessary information on your business card. Keep it nice and simple, and definitely do no use different fonts for different information. Do not confuse the reader.
5.Uniformity: Usually, business cards are a part of a set (Letterhead, envelope (DL, A5, A4, A3), folder, etc...). Try to uniform all materials into a standard design and colors. Companies pay a huge amount of money for a decent corporate identity, and if you were capable of doing so for your company then that would be a great addition to your resume.

Good Luck!
